Social media for business is not a replacement for eye to eye, flesh to flesh. It is an extension thereof.
I try to use this space to share knowledge and spark conversations, maybe pick a fight or two, or three, because we believe what we say about social media: It’s like a networking party. Talking about yourself is a good way to be left with only yourself to talk to.
That said, I want to tell a little social media story that ends up with a little promotion. Please note that in this case, anyway, we’re not selling anything. We’ve partnered up with someone you know to offer something, and they’re not selling it either. They’re giving it away to those who act quickly.
I got an email from a business friend that introduced me to a new business friend of hers. Friend “A,” who we’ll call Stephanie, since that’s her name, recommended I meet Steve (his real name) because she thought we’d be good power partners and for reasons she probably doesn’t understand but would if she read Blink by Malcolm Gladwell. I made a LinkedIn connection request with Steve, he reciprocated and we set up a coffee date. Within the week Steve made an email introduction to Enrique (also his real name. Swift Kick pulls no punches, y’all!) Another phone call and another coffee–man, I drink too much coffee–and now I get to meet an outstanding social media case study and participate as a speaker for a seminar sponsored by Qwest Business.
Told you, it’s someone you know. It’s free and first come first serve. Here’s the poop:
