A few details about Pepsi’s Refresh Everything Project

Here are some basic facts about how to participate in Pepsi’s Refresh Everything project, which is my favorite social media marketing exercise to date. You may know it from the TV campaign–social media is an excellent complement to mass media–featuring the Black Eyed Peas “One Tribe” song.

Voting begins on the first of each month. Ideas get submitted beginning on the first day of each month. Submissions continue until the 15th of the month or until 1000 ideas have been received…so the earlier you get your idea in, the better. With our client, we are finalizing the plan and roll up in July, submitting and launching the campaign August 1 and hitting the full court press for votes beginning September 1. The project, Warriors to Farmers, provides Iran and Afghanistan veterans an opportunity to own their own family farm and use leading edge, ecologically sound methods to grow and sell organic products. You’ll be hearing about it.

Visitors and voters can sort ideas by “close to me,” but excepting that only domestic projects will be selected and currently, because Pepsi has committed an additional $1.3 Million to aid the Gulf of Mexico region,  much of the blog is focused on the Gulf of Mexico, there are no regional critieria for selection or award.

For submitters, Pepsi hints that a video is beneficial in your profile. Your profile cannot be changed once submitted, so make sure you love it. You can, however, resubmit your idea if it is not selected.

There are four tiers of awards: $5,000, $25,000, $50,000 and $250,000. Each month, ten awards are made of the first three amounts. Of the larger amount, only two.
